Master Bedroom

The Master Bedroom is the only straw bale room in the house.   It is the upstairs level of the pod.  It has a fixed skylight at the top of a vaulted round ceiling.  The floor is pine, as is the ceiling.  The walls are plaster over the straw bales, and required any paint to be a clay based paint.  Clay based paints are breathable, and allow moisture to escape from the straw.  We chose a clay based paint from a local store called Home Green Home.  It is a green color called Sorrell.

The two operable windows open to the south and aid in the passive solar gain of the upstairs pod.  We have found this room to be one of the warmest in the house.   There is also a door with a single light in it that opens westward.  We hope to build a deck that would be accessed from that door.

The base board for most of the room is pine, but along the cutout for the stair case, we used some reclaimed tiles to create a textured baseboard.  They were fun to put up, and not too time consuming.

The lighting is provided by 3 wall sconces as well as a pendulum light over the stairs.   The pendulum light is covered by a chinese style paper latern.
